Keelung City Police Bureau Launches “KCPB English Club”
4545
In recent years, the number of tourists visiting Taiwan has reached record high. Keelung Miaokou Night Market, Zhongzheng Park, National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, and Badouzi Chaojing Park are the most attractive spots among domestic and foreign visitors in Keelung City.
To provide foreign visitors and residents with high-quality services, the Keelung City Police Bureau Director-general, Mr. Wong Ming-zhao, encourages police officers to enhance their English proficiency. Officers who are interested in English learning gather at the Police Bureau's “English Corner” on every Thursday afternoon to practice their English speaking and listening skills. At the first gathering, members of the KCPB English Club shared their self-English-learning ways. The available free resources on the Internet, such as Studio Classroom LINE friend, Youtube channels, and the VoiceTube App are useful tools for learning English. Officers practiced the “Pick-Up Lines” they just got at the club. The gathering was full of laughter.
Up to July 2018, 190 KCPB police officers have passed English proficiency tests. In addition to English, there are also officers learning Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Japanese, French, German, and other languages. Through the first contact and communication between police officers and foreign tourists, foreign residents, new immigrants, and migrant workers, we hope to make Keelung become a friendly and multicultural city.
